The RJ Hamer Forest Arboretum is unique collection of native and exotic trees, not with just a single or small numbers of trees in each plot, but each type of tree having a planting of about one half of an acre. This allows a study of the trees in forest formations and a pleasing recreational area awash with different colors and conditions with the changing of the seasons.
The arboretum is located just outside of the township of Olinda.
The arboretum has around 200 species of different trees, some native and some exotic including several types of deciduous trees. The entire aspect of the arboretum changes with the seasons. The tranquil location is often used as the place for weddings.
There are several walking tracks through the arboretum which offer great views of the forest and all of the Yarra Valley and Warburton Ranges. There are also a small number of picnic and barbecue facilities.
The arboretum is named after Rupert Hamer, a former Premier of the state of Victoria.
