Victoria is located in the south eastern corner of the Australian mainland and while the second smallest state in terms of land size, it nonetheless consists of over 227,000 square kilometers. The state is bordered by South Australia to the west, its 1,580 kilometers of coast line to the south and the Murray River for most of its northern border.
It is centered around the capital, Melbourne on Port Phillip Bay with holiday beaches on the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas and adjacent to the popular Yarra Ranges.
The western coast contains surfing and holiday beaches of the Great Ocean Road and some of the most iconic coastal tourist attractions in the state. The eastern coast consists of the famous Phillip Island and Wilsons Promontory and great coastal vistas and national parks.
The western volcanic plains head north to national parks and then the oasis of Mildura on the Murray River. Coming east is the Goldfields where one of the world’s largest gold rushes changed the region forever. The Great Dividing Range range ends there with the soaring cliffs of The Grampians. Heading further east is the beautiful valley of the Goulburn River and then to the High Country, the Australian Alps.
