Toward the north of the east coast but south of Binalong Bay, lies the resort township of Scamander which sits on the estuary of the beautiful Scamander River. The beaches south of the township down to Bicheno are known as Tasmania’s Surf Coast.
The small township of around 500 is popular as a holiday destination through its long sandy beaches and ocean views and it being adjacent to the river, which is known for its bream fishing. It has a caravan park and several bed and break accommodation spots. It is also popular with surfers who surf the river mouth and down the southerly beaches.
