Coles Bay is a small fishing and resort town that sits where the Moulting Lagoon enters Great Oyster Bay and is the gateway to the beautiful Freycinet National Park.

The township has about 470 or so permanent residents, however, being so close to the Freycinet Peninsula and with the scenic views of the areas that surround the town, it is extremely popular with tourists, many of whom who stay in the caravan park and other local accommodation.

The area has been a tourist destination going right back to the early 19th century. At the same time, the area had been used as a whaling station and had its tin and coal mines and local farmers and relics of the areas history can still be seen in the surrounding landscape.
